A Bit About Me
My name is Susan Drawbaugh, and drawing is, coincidentally, what I most love to do.
Although my art skills aren't limited to whimsical, that's
the style I especially enjoy. Early in my art career I was greatly influenced by a man I met while touring the MGM Animation Studios, Ben Washam. As one of the original animators of the
Bugs Bunny
,
Road Runner
, and
Tom & Jerry
cartoons, he had a desire to pass down the skills of his trade, so he spent years teaching a small group of aspiring animators from his home. I was one of those fortunate students.
Although I never made a career of animation, years later I wrote and illustrated my first children's book,
What Pet Will I Get?
, an animated "
Flip n Giggle
" picture book that was soon published. A mix of creative ventures followed, until I made the decision to become a freelance commercial illustrator for a variety of companies. My range of work spans from infant bedding, children's picture books, note cards, and picture puzzles - to grown-up art that includes company logos, wall prints, greeting cards, coffee mug lines, holiday decor, book covers, and chapter illustrations.
My medium of choice has always been a blend of pen & ink, markers, and colored pencils - along with the digital tools of Photoshop. As my focus is more directed to producing wall art, I've acquired a new taste for painting with acrylics.
I create from my home studio in the coastal town of San Pedro, California. I invite you to take a look at my work . . . and if it puts a smile on your face than I believe I've done my job.
